Truck Encyclopedia (31): A good battery depends on these two parameters
Without oil, the car cannot run, and without electricity, the car cannot start. As one of the most important electrical devices on a truck, it goes without saying how important the battery is. In order to ensure sufficient power, manufacturers also equip medium and heavy trucks with series dual batteries to increase the redundancy of the power system.
The battery is responsible for starting the vehicle engine and all electrical functions in the car. But the battery is also a consumable, and under normal circumstances, the truck battery needs to be replaced in about 3 years. So, when you replace the battery, have you paid attention to the parameters on the battery?
In today's truck encyclopedia, let's talk about the parameter meaning of the battery.
● Common standard - 12V
The standard for using 12V voltage in automobiles was established around the 50s of the 20th century. Almost all small cars on the market now use 12V batteries to power the vehicle. Since our trucks (mainly medium and heavy trucks equipped with diesel engines) require more motor power when starting, engineers connect two 12V batteries in series and use a voltage of 24V as a vehicle.
The truck uses dual batteries to form a 24V power system, which improves the reliability of the vehicle on the one hand, and on the other hand, the current required when the 24V voltage is started, the requirements for wires are lower, and it is safer.
● When buying a large-capacity battery, look at this unit - AH
Many of our card friends take their cars as their home, and they have more household appliances in their cars. In order to support the work of these electrical appliances for a long time, large-capacity batteries have become the first choice for all card friends.
Then AH (ampere-hour) has become the most concerned by card friends, and it is also one of the most important parameters of the battery.
AH (ampere-hour) represents the capacity of the battery, indicating 1 hour of discharge at a current of 1A (ampere). If the battery in your car is 200AH, then it can be continuously discharged for 200 hours at a current of 1A.
Since our batteries are chemical batteries, they rely on internal chemical reactions to discharge, and the more chemicals, the higher the battery capacity. Therefore, normally, the larger the battery, the higher the capacity, but the heavier the weight.
● Whether the battery is "strong" enough, it all depends on the CCA
CCA is the abbreviation of Cold Cranking Ampere, which indicates the amount of cold cranking current. The larger the CCA, the greater the current that the battery can provide when discharged, and the greater the "strength" of the battery.
So, what are the benefits of Jinda? Of course, it is stress-free to start in winter, and in the ice and snow, it feels really good to screw the key door and get into the car.
But if the CCA is too small, then it will become an old cow when it starts, and I believe that all card friends must not want to do this.
● 看蓄电池型号,也能看出门道来
After looking at the main parameters of the battery, let's talk about how to check the type of battery from the battery model. According to our country's machinery industry standard JB/T 2599-2012 (non-mandatory standard), battery product models are divided into 3 parts according to different types.
The three parts mentioned here are 6-QW-220, let's take a certain brand and model of battery as an example.
The first number indicates the number of single cells connected in series.
6, which means that the battery is composed of 6 batteries. The voltage of each battery cell inside the battery is 2V, and the 6 battery cells are connected in series to form a 12V voltage battery.
The second letter indicates the type of use of the battery.
Q is the starting battery; N is the battery for diesel locomotives; M is a battery for motorcycles. The specific use division is shown in the table below.
The third letter indicates the structural characteristics of the battery.
W is maintenance-free battery; A is dry charged; H is wet charged; M is sealed; JR is a winding type; J is the colloidal type. See the table below for specific feature divisions.
The fourth set of numbers indicates the capacity of the battery in AH.
220 means that the battery capacity of this model is 220AH.
The parameters in the first three parts are JB/T 2599-2012 industry regulations, which have general reference significance.
The 1100 marked in parentheses after the model is marked by the manufacturer, indicating that the CCA current is 1100A, which does not have general reference significance here.
● Editor's postscript
To briefly recap, our truck batteries mainly need to remember 2 parameters.
AH stands for the capacity of the battery, like the fuel tank of a truck, the bigger it goes.
CCA stands for the cold cranking current of the battery, just like the horsepower of a truck, the larger the power, the more power there is, and there is no need to downshift uphill.
