Did you think about ABS before you disliked it?

Whether through personal experience or hearsay, many people believe that the ABS braking system on trucks is not as effective as that of a certain prominent brand. Aside from the effects of overloading and some substandard ABS systems, there is another factor that can directly influence ABS braking performance.

The factor that directly affects the performance of ABS brakes is the brake chamber (brake caliper). Simply put, if we compare the control unit of the ABS system to a brain that issues commands, then the brake chamber is like the hands and feet that execute those commands. If the brake chamber's response speed is insufficient, it can easily lead to a state of 'flustered handling,' ultimately resulting in poor ABS performance and dissatisfaction.

We all know that the interior of the brake chamber includes several components such as the energy storage spring, diaphragm, push rod, return spring, and push plate. Due to space limitations, we will only discuss the return spring and push rod plate here. The quality of the return spring determines the response speed of the brake chamber, while the quality of the push plate determines the service life of the diaphragm.

The performance of the return spring affects the speed at which the brake returns.

For a more intuitive comparison, we used a different model of brake chamber return spring (left in the above picture) to compare with those from Ruili and the small factory. It is obvious that although all three return springs are nearly six-turn designs, in terms of height, the small factory's product on the far right is significantly shorter, resulting in insufficient spring force. In addition, the small factory's return spring is clearly much softer than the other two.

It is not difficult to see from the above image that, in the picture provided by Brother Hu, the push plate area of the brake chamber is significantly larger than that of the smaller factory on the right, giving the cup a larger contact area, making the force distribution more even, extending the service life of the cup, and reducing a series of faults caused by cup rupture.● Editor's Note:Although many people pay more attention to the quality of main ABS components such as the ABS control unit, wiring harness, and sensor, they often overlook the quality and reliability of peripheral ABS components such as brake chambers, air circuits, air reservoirs, air pipe diameters, and solenoid valves. After all, the vehicle's braking system is composed of many components working together as a large system, and any issue in one part can easily affect the overall performance.
