Experienced drivers share a few common problems that may occur while driving.
Cars running on the road are bound to encounter various problems. Learning a little bit on your own will help you understand things better, which can save a lot of unnecessary waste in terms of both money and time. The biggest difference between experienced and novice drivers is that experienced drivers have far more knowledge about vehicles and road conditions during driving. In terms of driving skills, there isn’t much difference between novice and experienced drivers. I have been in the trucking industry for over 20 years and have mentored a few apprentices. These young individuals, apart from lacking experience with vehicles and road conditions, excel in other aspects. The young ones, fearless like young calves, are full of energy and physical strength, with quick reflexes that surpass mine as their mentor. As people drive for longer periods, they tend to accumulate experience, but their confidence often diminishes.
A few days ago, my apprentice called me to ask about some small issues with the car. While I was telling him, I also reminded some new truck drivers of a few small suggestions regarding common issues that may arise during driving. Disclaimer: I am just a driver, not a professional mechanic. If there are any inaccuracies in what I said, I welcome professionals to point them out; I will humbly seek advice to ensure I don't mislead anyone.
▎What are the reasons for a heavy steering?1. Check if the power steering fluid is low, if there are any leaks in the power steering lines, and if the filter in the power steering reservoir is clogged.2. Inspect if the steering shaft and pressure bearings are deformed or damaged; if they are damaged, it will directly cause heavy steering.3. Check whether the ball joints of the tie rods are severely worn; if the ball joints are worn, it not only makes the steering heavy but can also cause the car to sway left and right while driving, and sometimes can lead to stuttering issues.4. Verify if the power steering pump is functioning abnormally; if the power steering pump is not working, it will directly lead to heavy and unresponsive steering.
5. Check the steering gear for any issues. If the steering gear is faulty and stuck, it will directly affect the normal operation of the power steering pump, resulting in heavy steering or even complete inability to turn the steering wheel.
What are the reasons for slow return of a single brake wheel, heating, and brake failure?
1. Check whether the brake pads are severely worn. If the brake pads of a single wheel are severely worn, identify the cause to avoid overheating and burning of the wheel.
2. Check whether the tension spring of the brake shoe is loose or broken. Looseness or breakage of the tension spring directly leads to a reduced gap between the brake pad and the brake disc, and even prolonged friction and heating.
3. Check whether the gap between the adjustment arm and the pivot shaft is too large. If the gap between the arm and the shaft is too large, the adjustment screws may not be adjusted properly, or the brakes may fail after running for a period of time even if they are adjusted correctly.
4. Check whether the ball bearings and shoe axles are severely worn. This is easy to understand. If the ball bearings or shoe axles are severely worn, it will directly lead to the brake system not braking properly and brake failure.
5. Finally, check whether the brake cylinder is leaking or working abnormally. If there is no problem inside the wheel and the single wheel still heats up when driving, then it is directly considered to be caused by brake cylinder leakage.
▎Postscript:The above points are some small knowledge I have summarized from my years of driving. Whether you are an experienced driver or a newcomer, everyone must accumulate experience little by little through continuous exploration. It's essential to keep exploring, summarizing, and uphold the attitude of 'there's no shame in asking'—this is the most precious work attitude for all drivers. As the saying goes, a person is 'not burdened by many skills'! On a journey of thousands of miles, safety is the most important!
