Brake failure is no small matter, what tricks do experienced drivers have?

In the past few months, I've seen all sorts of videos and articles about traffic accidents caused by brake failures, and it's really frightening and heart-wrenching. As someone who travels across the country all year round, that feeling of being there instantly makes my imagination run wild. Today, I want to share my personal experiences and insights with fellow truckers, hoping that even small tips might be of some help.

First, truck friends must learn to adjust the brakes themselves.

Whether you are an experienced driver or a new trucker, you must adjust the brake clearance according to the road conditions you usually drive on. For air-brake trucks (except self-adjusting brakes and small trucks with hydraulic brakes), before adjusting the brakes, bring the vehicle's air pressure to the normal exhaust level (usually 9–10 atmospheres), turn off the engine, use stones or wheel chocks to block the wheels, and ensure safety before releasing the handbrake. The proper method is to use a jack to lift the wheels, first use a torch to check whether the brake pads are within the effective range. Under normal circumstances, turn the brake adjusting arm clockwise to the end, then loosen by half a turn, which is 90° (the angle varies with the vehicle type, adjust accordingly), and rotate the wheel one turn to check for any friction.

Usually, use a wrench to tighten the adjusting arm screw, click, click, click, loosen three teeth, then pull the adjusting arm's push-pull rod by hand to check if the gap is appropriate. Finally, lock the adjusting arm screw or the telescopic buckle to prevent it from coming undone!▎Also, you should check the brake system and pipes regularly.Truck bodies are generally quite long, especially for tractors, and with the complicated routes of the air pipes and multiple branch pipes, leaks can easily occur. If not addressed in time, this can quickly lead to brake system failure.

It's recommended that card friends and drivers keep a few types of air pipes or accessories in the car, and it's best to have various courier connectors on hand just in case. Also, regularly drain the water from the air reservoir; if oil is found during draining, get a mechanic to check if the air pump is leaking oil and repair or replace the pump. Regularly replace the dryer cartridge to keep the dryer functioning normally.

▎Finally, in terms of driving, learn and ask more, gain experience and maintain good driving habits.

1. Start smoothly on flat roads.

2. When crossing intersections, control your speed according to the traffic lights to avoid sudden braking.

3. When going down long steep slopes, slow down and reasonably use engine RPM to control speed, as frequent foot braking can cause the brakes to overheat and fail.

If you've just come down a steep slope, never enter a cooling pool or pour cold water on the brake system, as high temperatures can cause the brake drums to crack, and the brakes might stop working altogether.
