Detect tire and brake problems early? This system is being introduced

Every summer, with the constant impact of high temperatures outside, tire blowouts also enter a high-incidence period. It is reported that IMC has launched an automated truck inspection system that uses thermal imaging and AI to detect tire and brake problems in advance. If it can really do early detection, introducing this technology domestically would be pretty great!

Truck drivers probably all know how dangerous a tire blowout can be, but do you know just how powerful it is? Check out the GIF below. The impact force generated over a short distance can easily fling a person several meters away. If the tire is overinflated, an explosion can even cause death, with a power comparable to that of a small hand grenade going off.

Besides that, brake failure is also an important factor in traffic accidents. So nowadays, car companies consider safety as the top priority in their production process, like installing tire pressure monitoring and ABS anti-lock systems in vehicles.

However, when vehicles have been on the road for a long time, problems are inevitable. Recently, according to foreign media reports, IMC, a company focused on automating mining truck tire inspections, has launched a new system called Pitcrew AI. This system uses FLIR thermal imaging and AI technology to change the way trucks and mining vehicles are inspected. Using an AI algorithm trained with a library of thermal images, Pitcrew AI can detect issues at an early stage, before the equipment is damaged or the vehicle causes a serious accident on the road.

Of course, this system isn’t widely used yet, and if you want to introduce it in China, it might take some time. So, in daily transportation, it’s still important to take care of your tires yourself—like checking them regularly, replacing them promptly when they’ve been used for a long time, and not overloading the vehicle.

● Editor’s Note

As a critical wear-and-tear part, wheels bear the full weight of the vehicle and carry the driver’s safety. So, everyone needs to pay attention to tire inspections and maintenance.
