In order to accelerate the improvement of ambient air quality and win the battle to protect the blue sky, under the influence of the broader environment, local environmental protection policies have been implemented, requiring construction trucks to have their chassis (tires) cleaned when entering and leaving construction sites. Due to differences in water alkalinity in various regions, this can accelerate the wear of vehicle braking systems and significantly shorten the maintenance cycle. Below, I will share some small tips on maintaining construction truck brakes with our truck friends.
● Point One
Under normal driving conditions, check the brake pads every 5,000 kilometers. Not only should the remaining thickness be checked, but the wear condition of the shoes should also be inspected to ensure both sides are consistent and that they return freely. Any abnormalities should be addressed immediately.
● Second Point
If maintenance is not carried out for a long time, it can cause the brake shoes and pins to rust and seize, losing their movement range, which leads to increased brake wear. When rust and seizure occur, sandpaper should be used to grind the iron pins, and during installation, ensure that the brake shoes and pin holes rotate easily.
● Point Three
The brake adjusting arm and camshaft are key components of the brake system. It is especially important to lubricate these two parts regularly. It is recommended to do so once every two weeks. If the vehicle frequently goes through water, the maintenance interval should be shortened.
● Point Four
For vehicles passing through the water pool, it is recommended to regularly clean the silt in the pool to prevent it from entering the brake drum, causing abnormal wear of the brake shoes and brake drum, and increasing maintenance costs.
● Warm Tips
① After maintaining the brakes, be sure to press the brake pedal a few times to eliminate the gap between the brake shoes and the brake drum before driving.
② After replacing the brake shoes, a break-in period of 200 kilometers is required to achieve the best braking performance.
