Truck brake system maintenance details: Neglecting them can easily lead to serious problems

For road vehicles, the most important thing is braking performance. How to maintain braking performance depends on whether the owner has properly maintained the wheel brakes in time. This maintenance is called: brake maintenance.

Brake maintenance requires regular servicing. It is recommended to do it every six months. Depending on the situation, the work time takes about half a day. If you frequently travel along waterways, the maintenance cycle needs to be shortened.

Today, I will tell you what happens if brake maintenance is not performed in time!

  Brake Maintenance After Use

1. Poor Brake Performance May Cause Accidents

As is well known, an air brake is a brake cylinder that uses high-pressure gas to push the brake shoes to achieve braking effect.

Since the brake shoes need to be pushed, their mobility is required. The brake shoes move with the help of brake pins. If they are not maintained for a long time, the brake lining and pins will rust and get stuck, losing their movement stroke. Naturally, the brakes cannot function properly.

From the above image, it can be clearly seen that the brake shoes are stuck, and the force caused by the blockage is significant. No matter how hard you press the brake, it is of no use. During transportation, the vehicle's weight is heavy, and the braking effect is also poor. The likelihood of an accident will increase accordingly.

The author has witnessed such accidents. The brakes did not engage, and the guardrail was broken through on a mountain road. Fortunately, it was hung up on a tree. Safety of truck drivers comes first! Don’t just focus on making money. You can slow down—it’s a valid excuse. If problems arise, the consequences would be disastrous!

When stuck, the iron pins should be polished with layered sand, which will make the pins ‘slim’. Sandpaper can also be used alone, but the rust prevention effect is not very good. Finally, a silky feel must be achieved through the installation hole of the iron pin! Then it can be installed on the vehicle.

  2. Drag the brake to stop cooling.

Not only did the brakes not work properly, but there was also brake dragging. In short, the operator has released the brake pedal and the brake shoe is stuck and not returned in time and is still generating braking force.

Constant friction will generate heat, brake pads and hubs will heat up and expand, and the wheels will lock up. It is essential to stop safely, find water, lower the temperature, and wait for rescue. Continuing to drive can seriously damage the brake pads and wheel hubs.

There is a second form of wheel locking. If left unserviced for a long time, the hub bearings will wear out. If the bearings are not replaced in time, they will crack, and debris will increase friction in the core and generate heat. Death phenomenon.

Bearing breakage is so severe that it can cause the wheel to fall off. It may indeed be "the rear wheel catches up with the front wheel"

Third, the brakes are damaged and make abnormal sounds, and there is no large amount of money for timely repairs.

Brake pads are consumables. Without maintenance, brake pads will not be replaced in time. Everyone knows that brake pads are fixed to the brake shoes by rivets. When the brake pads disappear, the rivets will rub against the hub and cause brakes. The sound is abnormal.

The friction between iron and iron will eventually hurt both sides, so it must be replaced! The saying that small money does not cost a lot of money may stem from this.

How to tell if brake pads need to be replaced? During braking, the middle part of the brake shoe has the largest friction area with the wheel hub. The friction area is minimal compared to the right side. The judgment is based on these two points. Can be replaced.

Fourth, the brake fluid leaks, causing deviation during braking

The rear axle requires gear oil and the axle is connected to the rear axle. How to stop gear oil intrusion indiscriminately, you need a half shaft oil seal. Oil seals are rubber parts. Over time, oxidation will lose its sealing properties. At this point, the gear oil will enter the core through the oil seal and naturally into the brakes.

The braking force of the rear wheels is greater than that of the front wheels. Assuming the right rear wheel loses braking action due to the presence of gear oil, the right front wheel will continue to work.

The brakes, of course, are no better than the left front and rear wheels, which can cause braking deviation. This sudden departure is sure to scare the driver, who can slam the steering wheel, return to the body, and accidentally cause a rollover accident.

There is also a second deviation phenomenon. One side of the front wheel is jammed or the brake stroke is uneven. No oil leaks on the front wheels. Only jamming occurs. Uneven braking stroke. can.

  Hydraulic brake system

After the maintenance of the single-cylinder brake

1. Simple structure and easy maintenance

Compared to pneumatic brakes, hydraulic brakes have a simple structure. Hydraulic (brake fluid) pushes the sub-cylinder, which pushes out the pushpin to open the brake pads for braking and is reset by a strong spring. For hydraulic brake maintenance, the sub cylinder is relatively prone to rust and jamming. It is recommended to replace it, and it is not reliable to maintain it.

rust and jamming

2. Oil leakage and lack of brake fluid in the auxiliary cylinder

The interior of the subcylinder is mainly composed of oil seals. Damaged oil seals can leak brake fluid. When the brakes are severely damaged, brake fluid can spray out and stick to the brake pads, resulting in poor stopping power. It is most convenient to rinse the brake fluid with clean water.

Most of the rest are the same as the pneumatic brake system. Untimely maintenance can also lead to abnormal brake noise, deviation and drag.

Introduction: Brake maintenance is not only timely maintenance, but also closely related to the details of repair.

In life, accidents caused by brake failure are always shocking, and the grief of two families is often left behind. Maintain your vehicle in time, drive on the road, safety is the first priority, don't work hard to win, abide by traffic rules!

Part of the details

Regular brake maintenance is important, but maintenance details such as ABS sensors, ring cleaning, adequate lubrication of bearings, adding new grease to the core and tightening the core nuts should not be overlooked. Install axle oil seals, etc

The customer must be responsible for the consequences of confident driving and irregular operation. The same is true in life. The more detail-oriented people are, the more they can get to the other end of the success one step ahead. As the saying goes: the details are everything.
