Just changing the brake king and it can stand firm? It's not that simple!

Most people who have used the 'Brake King' would say it’s not very good, but that hasn’t stopped it from being popular on the market. Around my area, there are a lot of mountain roads, so I naturally modified my vehicle with the 'Brake King' before. My original intention was to make braking more reliable on mountain roads, but after the modification, is it really that effective?

▎Why does it feel like the braking is stronger after switching to Brake King?

Actually, the principle of the 'Brake King' is quite simple. It essentially disrupts the linear increase of air pressure during braking, directly ignoring the part with low brake pressure and advancing the section with greater airflow. This gives the sensation of better braking, which is why upgrading to the Brake King feels like an improvement in braking performance.

However, when the vehicle is empty, since the low-pressure section is gone, the brakes become more sensitive and can lock up easily with a light touch, making it particularly uncomfortable to operate on slippery roads.

To avoid this situation, the once-popular empty/loaded valve appeared. When the vehicle is empty, you switch it to the empty side, so the brakes aren’t as harsh. The actual principle is simply reducing the air volume, which makes the braking feel softer under your foot.

Nowadays, the most popular 'Soft Brake King' works on the same principle. The only difference is that it integrates a throttle valve into the main valve body. When you lightly press the brake, the throttle valve takes effect, making braking gentler and preventing the wheels from locking on an empty vehicle.

▎New cars can handle it, but old ones can’t. Replacing it with the Brake King makes braking better.

Earlier, we talked about the principle of the Brake King. Compared to before, everyone now has a better understanding of what the Brake King is all about. But many truck friends say that when their vehicle was new, they didn’t modify it, and after running for a year or two, the brakes just weren’t working well anymore.

After installing the Brake King, the brakes feel much better, especially on older vehicles. After the change, it feels completely different from before—the brakes are stronger and can stop properly. So what’s going on here?

This issue is quite representative; many truck owners have encountered this situation. But in reality, is it really true that brakes fail just because the vehicle is old? From my experience with most vehicles, those that are properly maintained generally don't have this problem. So why is that?

Let me share something I personally encountered. A friend's trailer had really poor brakes, and he spent 1,500 yuan to install the so-called 'Soft Brake King,' but the trailer brakes were still ineffective—lightly pressing barely worked, and pressing harder caused the brakes to lock, which was very difficult to use. His truck's axle was a BPW, which normally shouldn't have this problem.

However, when I got under the truck, I was shocked. On almost every axle, a chopstick could fit between the brake camshaft bushing and the camshaft. Such a large gap naturally led to the issues observed. Although this was related to the vehicle being used to haul sand and gravel for a long time, the root cause was neglecting regular maintenance. In cases like this, would changing to a 'Brake King' help? The answer is no.

▎Braking requires overall coordination and timely maintenance. Replacing the 'Brake King' alone only provides psychological reassurance.

In practice, brakes not working well is often caused by improper maintenance. The example above shows the consequences of neglecting brake maintenance in daily life, resulting in spending 1,500 yuan without actually solving the problem. Instead of fundamentally identifying the reasons for brake deterioration, people choose to modify the brakes with high-end products.

Right after modification, it may seem effective, giving a sense of trust, but this is just a psychological placebo. In reality, after using it for a while, the problem will gradually worsen, trapping the vehicle’s braking system in a vicious cycle of repairs, where trying anything seems ineffective. Therefore, proper maintenance in daily use is the correct approach.
