Brake failure is very dangerous; remember to clean this little thing.
Speaking of which, the thing truck drivers worry about most while driving is brake failure. The braking performance of a truck is directly related to driving safety, and the brake system, being the most important component, is often maintained by drivers.
Many truck drivers even spend a lot of money to maintain and modify their brake systems, but sometimes the brakes still don't work very well. What's causing this?

▎Precautions for Truck Drivers When Maintaining the Brake System
When truck drivers maintain the brake system, they mostly focus on parts like brake pads and engine oil, but there is a small component that is often neglected: the adjuster arm.
Nowadays, most trucks still use drum brakes. With the wear caused by braking, the clearance between the drum brake and the brake shoes gradually increases. This requires using the brake adjuster arm to adjust the brake clearance, ensuring that braking remains effective and reliable.

If the brake clearance is not adjusted in a timely manner or the adjustment is not done properly, the brake clearance of each wheel cannot be kept consistent, which will affect the braking performance of the truck and, in severe cases, may even cause safety accidents. Most drivers frequently adjust the adjuster arm to ensure the brake system functions properly, but few drivers actually clean the adjuster arm.

Long-haul truck drivers all know that the underside of a truck is the dirtiest part, especially the control arms, which can be considered a trouble spot. Generally speaking, the control arms require a large amount of grease to function properly.
However, this also brings a problem: they easily attract dust, dirt, and other grime. If not cleaned regularly, a lot of dust and dirt can get into the internal components through the gaps. More importantly, excessive accumulated dust can affect the normal operation of the control arms.
So, if you notice that your brakes feel weak, don’t rush to replace the brake pads right away. You can first try cleaning the control arms. The cleaning method is quite simple; you just need to use a carburetor cleaner. After cleaning, don’t forget to also remove dirt around the worm gear (adjusting screw).

Of course, cleaning and adjusting the control arm is just a small detail. Brake failure can have various causes, and a comprehensive inspection of the braking system is necessary whenever a failure occurs to ensure daily driving safety. During regular vehicle maintenance, attention should also be paid to cleaning and adjusting the control arms, as this can also extend the life of the braking system. Fellow drivers, do you have any tips for dealing with brake failure? Feel free to share them.
