There are many factors that affect a vehicle's braking performance. Let's take a look at one reason that is often overlooked, which is the dryer tank.
After a short period of use, low-quality drying tanks lose their ability to absorb moisture from the air. In some drying tanks, the desiccant may even enter the vehicle's air system, causing greater safety and property risks.
As shown in the picture, this drying tank, which has been used for about a year, has already developed leaks at the bottom, causing moisture inside to escape through the seams of the tank, leaving visible marks, and such marks have appeared all around the tank.
After removing the old dryer, it was found that there was already a certain amount of water inside the dryer assembly, and a layer of black oil appeared on the vent screw, indicating that the dryer had been malfunctioning for a long time.
Let's take another look at the vent hole of the drying canister. It uses relatively large-diameter holes. At first glance, this design doesn't seem problematic, but if thinner filter paper and smaller-diameter desiccant are used, the higher pressure in the vehicle's air circuit can easily push the internal desiccant out directly into the air circuit, causing a blockage and creating a safety hazard.
When selecting a desiccator, try to choose one with fine and numerous pores and a stronger structure. After all, compared to the capacity of desiccant particles inside that cannot be seen, this method of identification is simpler and more intuitive.● How long should a desiccator be used before it is replaced?
I believe this is a question that many drivers want to know the answer to. However, since the operating conditions of each car are different, and the lifespan of drying tanks from different manufacturers varies, it is difficult to provide a unified standard for the replacement cycle.But today, I'll share a little trick that allows you to know at any time whether your drying tank needs to be replaced.
As shown in the picture, this is a substandard drying tank that has been used for a year. From the appearance, there is already a certain degree of oil leakage at the bottom, indicating that the internal desiccant has long been ineffective and cannot adequately absorb moisture, causing increased humidity in the truck's air circuit and the formation of condensation water.
The method to check whether a drying tank has expired is to start with the gas cylinder, using the drain valve at the bottom of the cylinder to see if the bottom of the cylinder is damp or has water. This is because the valve is located exactly at the bottom of the cylinder. At the same time, since water has a higher density, if the drying tank fails, the moisture in the gas line will naturally accumulate at the bottom of the cylinder due to gravity, which is right above the valve.
As shown in the image above, this air tank leaks oil very noticeably. In addition to using low-quality drying tanks with shorter lifespans, it is also related to its frequent operation in humid southern regions. Because the air humidity is higher than in the north, the lifespan of the drying tank is also shorter than in the north.
After cleaning off the oil or water stains accumulated at the bottom of the gas cylinder, simply replace it with a new drying canister. During daily use, develop the habit of regularly checking the gas cylinder's release valve. If you also install a pull ring, it not only facilitates routine inspections but also allows you to occasionally turn it a couple of times, ensuring a more even seal of the valve and preventing leaks. With this little tip, you can always know whether the drying canister has reached the end of its service life, making daily replacement more convenient and avoiding economic losses caused by premature or delayed replacement.
