The performance of the vehicle is directly related to driving safety, and the effectiveness of the brakes is of utmost importance. A car can run fast, but the ability to stop is crucial. Therefore, developing a habit of regularly checking the brake fluid is essential to ensure basic driving safety. Brake fluid is a liquid medium that transmits braking pressure in a hydraulic braking system. In vehicles that use hydraulic braking systems, brake fluid is also known as brake fluid or hydraulic fluid, and its English name is Brake Fluid. The braking system cannot function without it. Brake fluid serves as a medium for force transmission. Since liquids can be compressed, the pressure output from the master cylinder is directly transmitted to the slave cylinder through the brake fluid. There are three main types of brake fluid: 1. Castor oil-alcohol type: made from refined castor oil (45%-55%) and carbon alcohol (ethanol or butanol) (55%-45%), resulting in a colorless or light yellow, clear, and transparent liquid, which is the alcohol type automotive brake fluid. 2. Synthetic type: made by mixing ethers, alcohols, esters, and other additives for lubrication, oxidation resistance, rust prevention, and rubber swelling resistance, resulting in a color similar to that of engine oil, slightly yellow.
3. Mineral oil type: made from refined light diesel fractions with thickening agents and other additives, resulting in a color similar to that of engine oil, light yellow. Brake fluid, to be precise, belongs to the category of oils, and hydraulic brake fluid will gradually turn yellow and then black with use. When it turns yellow, it needs to be replaced. Brake fluid should be replaced regularly because, after prolonged use, it can become contaminated with impurities and moisture, leading to deterioration. Deteriorated brake fluid is not easily observable with the naked eye. Although brake fluid that has been used for a long time may still provide braking effect, it may suddenly weaken or lose its braking effect. Over time, brake fluid absorbs moisture from the air, lowering its inherent boiling point. When its boiling point drops significantly, even lower than that of water, the brake fluid, in strict terms, has already failed. Continuing to use it can easily lead to brake failure.
