Skillfully use plastic bags to deal with the leakage of trailer brake cylinders
Our trucks are composed of many system parts, if you ask everyone which system on the truck is the most important, I believe you will definitely say the braking system, because the braking system is directly related to our driving and life safety. One of the most critical components in the air brake system is the brake cylinder (scientific name brake chamber).
● What is a brake cylinder A device that provides braking power
The brake cylinder is actually a device that converts the energy of compressed air into mechanical energy, which is installed on the axle to provide power for braking.
● The function of the brake cylinder is to push the parts to complete the braking
When we step on the brake, the compressed air enters the brake cylinder, pushes the cylinder piston, the piston transmits the kinetic energy to the pusher, and pushes the brake camshaft, and the brake camshaft drives the brake shoe to rub the brake drum to complete the braking action.
● The brake film is damaged and leaking, and the brake fails and cannot start
The membrane is a very important part of the brake cylinder, which is responsible for energy conversion, and once it is damaged and leaks, the brake cylinder will fail.
If this fault is encountered in the driving state, it will cause the brake air pressure to drop sharply when the brake is pressed, resulting in brake failure, loss of control of the vehicle, and a serious threat to driving safety.
If the brake cylinder film is damaged and leaks in the parking state, the brake air pressure will not meet the driving standard, resulting in the vehicle being unable to start. At this time, if it happens to be on the road, it will make the vehicle unable to move, affecting the passage of other vehicles and causing congestion.
● Emergency treatment: cut off the air supply to the damaged part
On the road, once the brake cylinder film leaks, we need emergency treatment, so that the vehicle can drive relatively safely to the nearby repair shop to replace the film, the common method is to cut off the air input.
First, disassemble the brake pipe joint of the brake cylinder.
Second, look for a thinner plastic packaging bag, tear off a little ball and stuff it into the air input interface of the brake cylinder, pay attention to the tightness of the fortress.
Third, install the brake pipe back into the brake cylinder as it is.
Plugging the leaking sub-pump allows the air pressure of the whole system to be kept at a normal level, but it should be noted that this method will cause the brake failure of a single wheel on one side, and can only be used in an emergency.
Note: This method is only applicable to the braking end of the trailer and the main car brake cylinder, and the spring energy storage parking brake end can not be used this method, otherwise the parking brake will not be released!
● Do not disassemble the brake cylinder if it is not professional, it is dangerous
If you don't have relevant experience, don't try to disassemble the spring energy storage type of brake cylinder, because there is a very elastic energy storage spring inside this kind of brake cylinder, which is likely to cause the air chamber to pop open, causing injuries and even threatening life safety!
