Even if your beloved car is idle, it still needs maintenance. Are you aware of these precautions?
For truck drivers, trucks are their inseparable companions. However, sometimes when other things come up, the truck may be left idle for a few days, and many drivers store the truck in a warehouse. Little do they know, this makes the truck very prone to problems. Today, we will introduce a few maintenance tips for trucks during idle periods to see if you understand them.
● Prevent metal from rusting
Rust is mainly caused by the combined action of moisture in the air, oxygen, and corrosive substances. Therefore, for vehicles that are parked for a long time, the metal surfaces should be kept clean. The garage where the vehicle is parked should be well-ventilated to maintain a relative humidity below 70. Dust, dirt, and moisture on the car should be removed in time. Oily, greasy coatings or oil paper wrapping should be applied to parts and components that are prone to rust. For the pores on various assemblies, they should be sealed to prevent air, moisture, and dust from entering.
● Prevent aging and deterioration of rubber products
Rubber products on automobiles, such as tires, drive belts, and dust covers, often undergo aging, swelling, or deformation, resulting in deterioration of performance and shortened service life. Rubber aging is mainly due to the fact that rubber is an unsaturated high molecular hydrocarbon, which easily absorbs oxygen from the air and oxidizes. At the same time, vulcanized rubber has a certain permeability, allowing oxygen to penetrate and cause oxidation internally. Direct sunlight, in particular, can accelerate the aging of rubber. When rubber products are contaminated by diesel or engine oil, it can lead to volume expansion, loosening of the rubber, and a decrease in elasticity. To prevent the aging of rubber products, exposure to direct sunlight and contact with mineral oils should be avoided.
● Prevent the mildew of cotton and linen products
Cushions and carpets easily absorb moisture. Especially in humid areas and during rainy seasons, they are more prone to dampness and mildew. Therefore, car owners should frequently check cotton and linen products in the car, air them out appropriately, and keep them dry.
● Regularly check the engine's working condition
Start the engine at least once a month, let it idle for 4-5 minutes, and check the engine's operation. If any abnormal phenomena occur, adjustments or repairs should be made promptly. In addition, the battery should be checked regularly. The electrolyte level of the battery must be 10-15mm above the plates. If it is insufficient, distilled water should be added in time, the battery should be kept fully charged, and it should be charged when necessary.
